The Millwood-Waterford Citizens Association, Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c) (3) volunteer organization consisting of 485 single-family homes built in 1964 in the Millwood-Waterford Community of Central Prince George's County. The Association was incorporated on May 23, 2004, and received its 501 (c) (3) tax exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service on April 11, 2006, retroactive to May 24, 2004.
The Community is located inside the Beltway between Central Avenue and Walker Mill Road, bounded by Addison Road and Ritchie Road. It is in the 25th legislative district, and the 6th council district. The Blue Line Subway and Metrobus are the public transportation sources for the community. Community Schools include Central High School, Walker Mill Junior High School, and John Baynes Elementary School. Recreational facilities include the Walker Mill Regional Park and the Millwood Community Park and Recreation Facility.
The community consists of neighbors working together to preserve and improve the quality of life in their community and surrounding communities, and has been a very active participant in the County Executive’s “Livable Communities Initiative.” The community has an active Neighborhood Watch Program.
Over the years, this Association has been an effective and respected participant in public hearings and meetings relating to proposed developments in the community. The Association holds monthly meetings and invite speakers to discuss a variety of issues if concern including METRO construction, community policing, abandoned commercial properties, school and recreation activities, community master plan development, housing development, commercial business activity, community clean-up, revitalization, crime, abandoned vehicles, and housing violations.
The Association consist of the following committees: Block Captains, Neighborhood Watch, Hospitality, Picnic & Holiday Parade, Entertainment and Fund Raising and Community Standards.
Community Leaders and members attend Prince George’s County Council hearing, County School Board hearings, Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission hearings, and other meetings with Prince George’s County departments and organizations to convey the interest of the community and to help ensure that the community and surrounding communities remain viable and stable. Community officers and members assist school faculty and administrators with planning for expansion and renovation of community schools, participate in mentoring and tutoring programs in the schools, and provide schools with supplies, computers, and other needs.
This Association is an active member of the Coalition of Prince George’s Civic Associations.
The Association has a Scholarship Assistance Program which provides financial support to current year Prince George’s County high school graduates who have been accepted to a college/university or vocational school.
The Millwood-Waterford Citizens Association has been very active over the years, helping to make improvements in this community and neighboring communities. It is well-known by County and State officials. The Association has received commendations and awards for it outstanding contributions to the community under the leadership of the Current President and Past Presidents.
